Harley Quinn Highway Recap

Happy Friday, and happy weekend release day for the Birds of Prey movie! Have you guys seen it yet? We’re super excited as we’ve heard nothing but amazing things. While you go on and get your tickets, let’s talk about this week’s awesome episode of Harley Quinn! With Ivy in danger, Harley gets some of her shit together and goes to rescue her. Also, we see the Harley Quinn Highway for the first time, and jury’s still out on whether we want to take a ride or not. Read our full recap below:
- A Daring Escape: In the middle of her transport to surgery, Ivy manages to gain consciousness just long enough to attack the two guards transporting her. Despite being extremely fatigued and unable to see straight, she puts up a good fight and manages to find the exit. Unfortunately for her, Scarecrow has gotten wind of her escape attempt and stops her by injecting her with another sedative.
- Reuniting the Crew: Harley scopes out the facility keeping Ivy, but Frank tells her it’ll be impossible to go at it alone. She will need more crew members. Hence, the Harley Quinn Apology Tour! She goes to each of her former crew members and sincerely apologizes to them for her wrongdoings, but they aren’t quite buying it. However, the moment they hear that Ivy’s been kidnapped, they agree to work with Harley for the sake of saving Ivy.
- Pretzel Wrapped Weiners for All: With Sy at the wheel of a pretzel wrapped weiner truck, the gang heads to the facility. They manage to make it inside and knock out some guards to steal their hazmat suits. Meanwhile, Scarecrow has harvested a scary amount of Ivy’s pheromones to use for a future project. Obviously, he refuses to tell her what the pheromones will be used for, and uses a special ‘vegan blend’ of poison to eliminate her for good. Harley and Co. burst onto the scene, but Dr. Psycho worries that the toxin is destroying Ivy’s brain. While Sy protects the rest of the group’s bodies, Harley, Psycho, Clayface and King Shark enter Ivy’s brain to do some damage control.
- Biggest Fears: Ivy’s brain has been mega warped by the fear toxin and is now made up of her biggest fears. Thanks to helpful plot-device Frank, Harley and Co. learn that they need to destroy Ivy’s biggest fear in order to restore her brain to normal. They battle through a variety of her fears before finding the ultimate one… Harley herself! While Harley wrestles with that, the crew is zapped back to their bodies and greeted with a mass carnage of dead guards. Sy really did protect them!
- The Harley Quinn Highway: With Ivy awake, Harley tries to ask why she’s her biggest fear, but Ivy has bigger things on her plate. Namely, the pheromones that Scarecrow stole and will use to destroy Gotham. The crew races outside and watches as their former transport is towed away. Lucky for them, Sy is (disgustingly) able to transform himself into a vehicle. With a vehicle acquired, the crew follows Scarecrow and his trucks on Harley Quinn Highway, a zany, rollercoaster-esque highway designed by Harley herself when she threatened to nuke the city.
- Emotional Confrontation: While Harley and Ivy take down the trucks, Harley tries to get Ivy to explain why she is her biggest fear. Ivy admits that her fear comes from Harley ditching her for the Joker, who consistently treats her like shit, thus proving that Harley will never change. It’s well-deserved, to be honest. Their confrontation is cut short by a loop which sends Harley falling, but Clayface is able to catch her. Ivy takes out all but one of the remaining trucks on her own and is rescued by Harley and the crew. Once Harley acquires a bazooka, she aims to take out Scarecrow’s truck, but not before apologizing to Ivy and admitting that she is right about everything. She then blows up a statue of herself, stopping Scarecrow in his tracks.
- Uh Oh: However, Scarecrow isn’t letting the plan die. He swerves past the statue and into the water by Gotham park, polluting the water supply with Ivy’s pheromones. The pheromones then infect the trees, which start to wreak havoc on the city and eat every person in their path. Not good, not good at all.

Bensonhurst Recap
1/31/2020 2:04 pm
It’s Friday, arguably one of the best days of the week, and only made better by the addition of a new Harley episode! This week, Harley travels back home
- Funemployment: King Shark, Dr. Psycho and Clayface enjoy their time at an amusement park without Harley, much to the gymnast’s dismay. Bane enters Harley’s office and tries to offer some support, but it quickly goes downhill when they realize she wasn’t invited to Black Manta’s beach lair that weekend. Back at her lair, she’s not much better. She’s in full breakup mode, ice cream and fuzzy blanket to boot. After a failed text to Ivy, Hallucination!Harley pops up to offer a bit of advice. She suggests returning to someone who will always love her unconditionally: her mother.
- The Quinzels: In a delightfully creepy 90s sitcom-esque montage, we see the Quinzels. In short, there’s Harley, her formerly obese mother, her crime-doing father and her deceased brother. Not exactly a full-house.
- Dandelion Help: Ivy wakes up strapped to a table, greeted by a man in a hazmat suit. She has no clue where she is, which seems to be the intention. Ivy tries bargaining with hazmat man for her release, appealing to his softer side; he’s a kindergarten teacher, and gooning apparently is a side-gig. Unfortunately, he’s unable to let her go in fear of his goon-rating dropping to three stars and leaves to take a phone call. As he leaves, he picks up and blows a white dandelion. Lucky for Ivy, one of the seeds makes its way through an air vent and right to Ivy’s grasp. She turns the seed into a full dandelion and asks for its help in contacting Harley.
- Second Place: Meanwhile, Harley rants to her mother about all her Legion of Doom problems. Like a true mother, Sharon wishes that Harley would return to being a psychologist and do crime-work on the weekends, but Harley disagrees. She makes her way to her trophies and gets a glimpse of her second place championship trophy. As it turns out, Harley could have made it big and was a runner for the Olympics… if only her dad hadn’t made her throw the competition. Harley describes the day as the worst day of her life, and honestly, we don’t blame her. Unfortunately for her, it turns out that her dad is back in the picture as her mother got back together with him when he got out of jail. Way to go, Sharon.
- Totally Stoned: Frank the plant is hanging out with Chaz the stoner when the dandelion enters. Frank quickly goes to action, asking Chaz to drive him to Bensonhurst, Brooklyn in order to get Harley’s help.
- An Awkward Family Dinner: During dinner, Sharon attempts to set Harley up with a man, but Harley refuses and remains cold towards her dad, Nick. She continuously texts Ivy, but given that Ivy’s tied up at the moment, she’s unable to respond. Nick attempts to tell Harley that he’s reformed, but like hell is she about to believe him. She refuses his apology and remains firm in her grudge. Nick points to Harley’s grandmother, who’s just glad to see her given that she has brain cancer and doesn’t have much time left to live. She barely utters her diagnosis before she’s shot right in the head, taking her out completely. Harley recognizes the attack and sure enough, it’s an assassin trying to take them out.
- Messing With the Mob: Using her quick thinking, Harley stages the deaths of herself and her family to trick the assassin. With his guard down, she attacks him and attempts to pry information out of him, but Nick kills him before she can. He reveals that the mob is likely after him as he owes them a lot of money. He decides to confront them, and Harley comes along to make sure they won’t kill her mother when her dad screws up. She attacks the three mobsters when they arrive, and thanks to her dad’s gymnastics coaching, has a fairly easy time of it. Nick apologizes for costing Harley the championship and the two share a sweet moment; up until the chef comes out and shoots at them, that is. Harley manages to take the chef out, but Nick loses a thumb in the process.
- Honey’s the Deal: Frank wakes up in Mexico, where Chaz the dealer has taken them in order to score some hallucinogenic honey. Rightfully, Frank is pissed as they’re supposed to be in Brooklyn getting Harley. While Chaz goes on a honey trip, Frank takes over the wheel and races to Brooklyn.
- Ripping the Bandaid: Back at the lab, Gus the kindergarten teacher reads all of Harley’s texts to Ivy. Ivy wants to say goodbye to her, but Gus insists that their friendship is toxic and it’s better to end it. Against Ivy’s wishes, he texts Harley that their friendship is over and she should leave her alone.
- A Sudden Change: Back in Brooklyn, Harley and her family are having a touching dinner when she gets the text from ‘Ivy’. She’s pretty bummed out about it, up until her grandfather comes in with a bottle of wine. The happy reunion doesn’t last long through, as he’s taken out just as quickly as her grandmother was. Another assassin enters the home, and Harley wastes no time in killing her. Before she can wonder too much about the mob, she’s shot in her side… by her father. As it turns out, he tipped off the assassins for a fee to collect the huge bounty on Harley’s head. Some family drama is peppered in the mix, but before that gets too severe, the attack on Harley continues, with both her parents turned on her. She declares that they aren’t her family and aren’t even worth the kill before leaving the house. As she stumbles out, Frank pulls up and asks what happened to her. Before she can say anything, she blacks out.
- Mission: Rescue Ivy: Harley wakes up in the car to Hallucination!Harley. She’s disappointed with her circumstances and is upset that Ivy no longer wants to be her friend, but Frank cuts in and says that’s complete bull, given that Ivy’s been kidnapped and they need to save her. Back at the lab, Ivy’s doctor has arrived as it’s time for her ‘harvesting’. She demands he show his face, and to her surprise, it’s Scarecrow.
- Credit Card Woes: Over at Black Manta’s lair, Bane finds Joshua, Penguin’s nephew. He has the bills from his credit card (which he’s apparently in charge of), and apparently Joshua was the one who put down the one million dollar bounty on Harley’s head as revenge for ruining his Bar Mitzvah. Bane gives him a lesson in maturity, which Joshua seems to understand. A touching moment to end a very tense episode!

A Seat at the Table Recap
1/25/2020 11:11 am
Talk about doing an about-face! This was quite a different take from last week’s episode, with a lot of emotions and drama, not to mention that ending left quite a bit to wonder about what could be next, but first, let’s recap all that happened in this week’s episode:
- You’re Doomed!: We’re brought in right into Harley’s crew watching an intro video of what to expect being new members, before they’re brought out to be officially welcomed by the rest of the LOD, and a speech by Lex Luthor. But before everyone can go off and mingle, the Joker has a few words to say. Surprisingly, his words are praise for Harley and all that she has accomplished since she dumped him. Thankfully, neither Harley, nor anyone in her crew, are actually buying a word of this. For now.
- An “Evil” Environmental Retaliation: It seems that despite everything, Harley is trying to mend things with Ivy. She’s meeting with her for coffee, and tries to convince Ivy that despite being a card-carrying member of the Legion, she’s still available for anything that Ivy needs punched. After some initial reservations, Ivy gives in and tells her she has a plan. Much to Harley’s happiness, Ivy wants to take down a company that’s destroying the environment, and she could use some help. It seems like their friendship is on the mend, and Harley will be able to balance both her dream of being in the Legion, and having Ivy as a friend.
- Doom and Goons: While Harley is brought in to her new office - with some prime baseball bats for smashing - the rest of her crew soon realize that they are not on the same level as Harley, but rather just regular goons. That is to say, they are there for any legionnaire that wants to do some evil plan. That doesn’t make anyone in that trio particularly happy, but Bane has a plan, and he’s rented the trio to help him. Meanwhile, Harley is in a meeting for the members to pitch in evil ideas. The Joker has a ridiculously complicated idea, and while everyone is initially onboard, Harley withholds her support, and topples that tower idea with just logic.
- Just One More Drink: Afterwards, Harley is expecting the Joker to berate her for getting his idea disapproved, but he’s actually...impressed? Harley is baffled, but not enough to fall to his charms and accept his invitation to have drinks and meet outside of the Legion. That is, until her crew informs her that they’re being conscripted to do Bane’s legwork, and Harley figures she can get some information from Joker on how to ‘game the system’ and get her friends out of having to work for Bane. One thing leads to another, and pretty soon they’re sharing shots on the house from their number one shipper.
- Old Habits Die Hard: While Harley’s enjoying her night out with her old toxic flame, she’s leaving all of her friends with nothing but silence and disappointment. Ivy, who was waiting to meet with Harley to do their preparations for their attack, is fed a story about being stuck in a Legion meeting. While Frank tries to tell Ivy that she’s being stood up, the latter wants to give Harley the benefit of the doubt. Meanwhile, the trio is left with no choice but to be Bane’s goons for his nefarious plan. Meanwhile, Harley and Joker have moved from the bar to a nice yacht hijacking with a candle-light dinner from a couple. They are reconnecting, until Batman shows up to take them down.
- Fool Me Once…: The scene was very reminiscent of the Pilot, with Joker about to leave Harley to fight the Bat. But this time, lo and behold, he takes her on the chopper with him! It’s all Harley ever dreamed: being in the Legion, having the Joker respect her and treat her as an equal and kiss her and - throw her out of the chopper. It’s not a pretty scene as Harley has the realization that she’s been duped once again, and her memories flash with all of the times she’s been used by the Joker before. She feels ready to give up, until Batman saves her, and tries to speak some truth to her. But Harley has already realized that, painfully so.
- Finless: Meanwhile, Bane has put King Shark in charge of planting the explosive to get his revenge, but thinking that he’s taking too long, Bane activates the explosive, unfortunately wounding King Shark and severing his dorsal fin. Thankfully, he’ll be alright, but it’s in the hospital room when the trio, plus Ivy who was informed of the accident, find out that Harley was lying to all of them. There was no meeting, no attempt to get the trio out of being Bane’s goons, just one candid recording of Harley and Joker kissing while on the chopper. And as perfect timing does, it’s right then that Harley shows up, still lying through her teeth.
- Alone: As if being dumped, quite literally, by the Joker, wasn’t enough, she’s also dumped by her crew and Ivy. No one wants anything to do with her, thinking her of just going back to her old ways when it’s convenient for her. No one wants to believe that she’s finally seen that Joker is a manipulative jerk - and even we as an audience are left somewhat skeptical - and they all resign and leave Harley to deal with the fallout of this all by herself.
